Travel
and beauty are two of my favorite things, so when
I heard about the newly opened Krigler shop at the Four Seasons Hotel Los
Angeles at Beverly Hills, I knew it would be something for The Parisian Eye.
On my trip to
California earlier last month, I discovered both the shop and the brand – and
what better setting than Beverly Hills’ Four Seasons Hotel to discover a brand
which, although its history originally started in the south of France, I had
not heard much of until then ?
The reason for this may be the fact that the house of Krigler is mostly linked to American history and celebrities: Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, John F. Kennedy or F. Scott Fitzgerald all helped build the legend, which started in the early 1920s and instantly became a favorite among celebrities and royals of the era.
And what
celebrities! The night she won an Oscar for The Country Girl in 1955,
Grace Kelly wore Chateau Krigler 12. In her twenties, Audrey Hepburn wore the
citrusy English Promenade 19 during the filming of We Go to Monte Carlo. America
One 31 was a favorite of both Ernest Hemingway and John F. Kennedy. The
fragrance was named after the year 1931, when the Krigler family moved to New
York.
With this
impressive list of Hollywood royalty customers, opening a shop in L.A was quite
a logical step. The shop will host Krigler’s master in-house perfumers, who
will help clients choose one of the historic scents, with fragrances in
glamorous bottles made from the finest Austrian crystal, and candles in jars
designed by French artisans.
For $50,000 to
$60,000, clients will be able to meet Ben Krigler, fifth generation of the
family and current head of the company, an exclusive suite to create their very
own olfactory trademarks, matching their personality and complementing their
specific body chemistry.
