On my last trip to London, I had the chance to stay at Rosewood London, the city’s most recent luxury hotel. I was very curious to see what the Rosewood Hotels & Resorts group brought London with the opening of their very first hotel in Europe – ahead of the much anticipated reopening of the Hotel de Crillon in Paris… And they bring so much, I don’t know where to start!

First, the location: in Holborn, where the City meets the West End, the
hotel will surprise you if you get there by cab like I did: your driver will
pull up in the hotel’s very own intimate courtyard after driving through
wrought-iron gates, making you arrival more akin to a private manor house than
a hotel…

As soon as I got out of the taxi, I was helped in the hotel by a group
of handsome, smart staff dressed in pure British style. A nice start to my stay!
I then walked into the hotel where I was literally astounded by the grandeur of
the place: a rose-bronze entrance and glass gallery with black-and-white mosaic floor
opens on a truly immense sleek lobby, with distinct reception and concierge
desks. Everywhere I looked (the lobby lounge opens on the
Mirror Room, a huge salon for all-day dining and afternoon tea), was
perfection, elegance, grandeur. The most unexpected detail? A cage with real
birds by the elevators.

I accessed my Grand Premier Suite after walking through larger than life
corridors of the revisited 1914 Edwardian Belle Epoque building, and getting a
glimpse of the impressive Pavonazzo marble staircase, which rises up through
all seven storeys of the hotel beneath a 166-foot cupola.

The bigger hotel room I had stayed at in London so far, my Grand Premier Suite was actually as large as an apartment, spreading out
across 85 square metres (915 sq. ft.) of living space in the style of a British
manor home, with precious materials. The large living-room was decorated as if
it would have been someone’s home with books and objects spread all around… Something
I especially appreciated, as well as the sexy, sleek bathroom!

Of all
the public spaces at Rosewood London, my favourite definitely was the bar and its convivial atmosphere with a roaring fire at one end and
wooden bar running along the other.
