A Farewell to Peachtree Road: Sir Elton John’s Iconic Collection Takes Center Stage at Christie’s New York

In an unprecedented celebration of music legend Sir Elton John’s life, artistry, and eclectic tastes, Christie’s is set to unveil “The Collection of Sir Elton John: Goodbye Peachtree Road” on February 21, 2024, at their Rockefeller Center in New York. This landmark series of eight sales, both live and online, will offer collectors a rare chance to own a piece of Elton John’s rich history and bid farewell to his iconic Atlanta residence.

Elton John’s connection to Atlanta, particularly his residence on Peachtree Road, holds a poignant significance. Acquiring the condominium in Park Place in 1992, the city became a haven for the music legend during a pivotal period of personal transformation. The unexpected choice was fueled by the warm community and support he found in Atlanta’s recovery facilities, notably the Triangle Club, marking a chapter of solace and renewal after his journey to sobriety in 1990.

Tash Perrin, Deputy Chairman of Christie’s Americas, expresses the privilege of curating this extraordinary auction, emphasizing the diverse array of objects that encapsulate Elton’s unique life, work, and art. The Christie’s Rockefeller Center Galleries will transform into immersive spaces in the two weeks leading up to the sales, providing a dynamic view into the world of Elton John.

The collection features an in-depth exploration of Elton John’s passion for photography, with a gallery-like atmosphere adorned with works by iconic artists like Andy Warhol, Helmut Newton, and Robert Mapplethorpe. Fans will also discover highly intimate artworks crafted personally for Elton John and his husband David Furnish, including Damien Hirst’s “Your Song” and a portrait by Julian Schnabel.

The sale showcases a selection of fashion pieces from Elton John’s dazzling stage wardrobe, including an Ivory and Gold Ensemble designed by Annie Reavey in circa 1971, holding historical significance as one of the initial sets of stage attire crafted exclusively for him. The auction also brings to light Elton John’s connection with the Versace family, featuring an incredible group of Versace items, including vintage Gianni Versace shirts, tableware, and home décor.

Elton John’s Atlanta apartment, a personal sanctuary, will be represented in the sale with items ranging from a grand piano to art glass collections, antiques, and artifacts from his global travels. This collection, a testament to Elton John’s eclectic tastes and influence, invites collectors and fans alike to bid on pieces that encapsulate the legendary singer’s extraordinary life and legacy. Christie’s anticipates that this auction will not only be a sale but a journey into the heart of Elton John’s artistic and personal odyssey.
