Hermès Reimagines Time with the Arceau Hermès Locomotion

Hermès has long been known for its ability to tell time in unexpected ways—not just through movement, but through craftsmanship, artistry, and storytelling. With its latest limited-edition timepiece, the Arceau Hermès Locomotion, the Maison once again proves that horology can be an art form in itself.

At first glance, the Arceau Hermès Locomotion looks like a wearable work of pop-art. And that’s no coincidence: its design draws inspiration from a scarf created by French illustrator and director Ugo Bienvenu. His vibrant, futuristic vision of the iconic Hermès boutique at Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris has been reinterpreted through an intricate process of miniature painting, transforming the watch into a multi-dimensional diorama.

The Arceau case, originally designed by Henri d’Origny in 1978, becomes the perfect canvas for this creative expression. Its curved lines and asymmetrical lugs lend a poetic structure to the dreamlike universe depicted on the dial—an explosion of pinks, yellows, blues and greens, applied layer by delicate layer. Even the underside of the sapphire crystal has been hand-painted to enhance the illusion of depth.

Surrounding this miniature masterpiece: a 38mm white gold case, set with 71 diamonds. A rose-cut diamond crowns the winding crown, while a pale mauve alligator strap echoes the pastel tones of the dial. Inside, the timepiece is powered by the Hermès Manufacture H1912 self-winding movement, offering a 50-hour power reserve and crafted entirely in Switzerland.

In typical Hermès fashion, time here is not about precision alone—it’s about emotion. The Arceau Hermès Locomotion doesn’t just tell the time; it invites you to pause, dream, and view time through a different lens—where imagination and craftsmanship merge.

Limited to just 12 numbered pieces worldwide, this edition is as rare as it is whimsical—a collector’s piece for those who appreciate both haute horlogerie and the lightness of the unexpected.
