Illusion Captive, the new exclusive fragrance by Lalique

In 1898, René Lalique was at the peak of his art when he created one of the most iconic creations of the Art Nouveau style: the “Libellule (“Dragonfly”) brooch”. It is from this fabulous piece that the House of Lalique draws the inspiration of its new opus: Illusion Captive.

Noir Premier: an exclusive collection

The Noir Premier Collection pays tribute to the great milestones in the history of Lalique, with contemporary fragrances whose names and themes are inspired by a heritage marked by audacity and modernity.
Crafted with  unrivaled ingredients, these creations reveal unprecedented facets of olfactory families with timeless beauty. Bold balance of abstract and figurative, the bottle sheltering these fragrances is inspired by two iconic creations of René Lalique.

The Dragonfly

In this stunning jewel, two major themes of René Lalique’s oeuvre, Woman and Fauna, fuse to form a fascinating chimera. Gold and diamond combine with chrysoprase, moonstone and enamel to form virtuosic motifs in the cloisonné technique perfected by the artist. A real masterpiece.

Illusion Captive: a new Noir Premier

The Noir Premier flacon is adorned with an opulent mosaic motif that evokes both the silhouette of the dragonfly woman and the delicate veins of her wings. Engraved on the back façade of the transparent glass bottle, this refined drawing is reflected by the front façade, and enhanced by the golden hue of the fragrance.

The scent

For this olfactory creation, perfumer Karine Dubreuil-Sereni wanted to “treat chypre through freshness, with modern citrus notes and a sheer floral heart.” She adds: “I enhanced their radiance with a darker, woody dry-down“.

The fragrance takes flight in the golden light of Italian bergamot, filtered through the milky green of fig leaves. Quivering under the burning breeze of cinnamon from Ceylon, it unfurls its translucent wings, iridescent with rose and jasmine sambac… Like translucent enamel showcased by the darker veins of the cloisonné, these luminous fruit and flower accords are set in a Virginian cedarwood and Indonesian patchouli base. In the dry-down, cistus labdanum, vanilla, tonka bean and myrrh add their burnished golden glow to this soaring sillage.
