It is one of those names in the luxury hospitality and travel sphere that automatically rings a bell to anyone, since it is associated with one of the most popular festivals on the planet: the Majestic Barrière in Cannes. On a recent trip to the south of France, I got a chance to experience it for myself and realize that nearly a century since it first opened in 1926, the Majestic stays faithful to the qualities which have made its international reputation and forged its unique appeal.

Being on the French Riviera, there is of course a very nice pool that I could see from my window, and a private beach (La Plage Barrière Le Majestic Cannes). But given that the weather was not at its best during my stay, I decided to make the most of my room and large, comfortable bathroom; and explore the hotel.

Walking around the Majestic, you can feel the spirit of the Film Festival thanks to a remarkable collection of over 2,500 photos, tracing 60 years of the Festival. The most talented stars in Hollywood are depicted (Al Pacino, Francis Ford Coppola, Robert de Niro, Steven Spielberg, Catherine Deneuve, Grace Kelly, Halle Berry, Laetitia Casta and Sharon Stone)… Only to name a few.

The spirit of the Cannes Film Festival is also present with three spectacular suites for guests in search of something truly special: the Majestic Penthouse, Christian Dior Penthouse and the Mélodie Suite. The first invites guests on a cruise across the Mediterranean, the second tells the story of a master of true elegance, while the third pays homage to two movie greats.

If they are all equally spectacular, I definitely had a crush for the Christian Dior Penthouse. It is there that, during the festival, some of the most famous international film stars come for a manicure or bespoke make-up session carried out by the best make-up artists in the world: Eva Herzigova, Chiara Mastroianni, Xavier Dolan, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Tilda Swinton, Sofia Coppola, James Franco, Léa Seydoux, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Quentin Tarantino, Gemma Arterton, Louise Bourgoin, Noomi Rapace, Pierre Niney and Lou de Laâge have all got ready once there, getting ready to pose in front of the crowds of fans and photographers at the foot of the Palais des Festivals steps.
