China has been making the headlines recently, as the traditional yearly rankings of the world’s richest people are published, such as Bloomberg’s. According to the Swiss National Bank’s report on the “super rich” for 2014 (with a net worth of over $30 million), Hong Kong is the city with the biggest proportion of billionaire women in the whole world.
This context seems perfectly fit for the first of what presumably will be a long list of fashion news this year for Moynat, the Parisian trunk maker.
As 2015 marks the 165th anniversary of the Maison, the year started with the opening of its first gallery in Asia on January 8th at Landmark, facing Pedder Street. The gallery includes women’s and men’s leather goods and accessories, trunks and textiles. Of course, the gallery will also take orders for the House’s signature personalisation service, from hand painting of initials, to made-to-measure trunks and handbags.
In celebration of both news, Moynat has created a unique and exceptional Réjane (the first handbag to be named after a celebrity) mini bag in crocodile leather with a jewelled closure. This unique “evening chic” interpretation of the iconic Réjane bag is in a new 20cm size and is hand made in the Moynat atelier located in the heart of Paris, requiring six crocodile skins to achieve perfect symmetry.
The clasp is rendered in rose gold, paved with 320 diamonds by master jewellers on the legendary Place Vendome. In the centre of the clasp “Moynat Paris” is delicately etched in filigree technique on a base of mother of pearl and protected with curved quartz. All metallic elements in the bag are also in rose gold.

This exceptional creation is not the only new illustration of Moynat’s talent and savoir-faire… I will soon share another one-of-a-kind gem by Ramesh Nair’s the Maison’s artistic director.
