For me, summertime is always the occasion to explore new destinations, but also get to enjoy my own city: Paris. As the masses escape the city in search for seaside fun (which I’d rather do in exotic destinations during winter), Paris is emptied from its usual crowds, offering all of its beauty in the sunshine.
With only 24 rooms, Hotel Récamier is one of those hidden gems, the kind of address that you want to keep for yourself. A jewel of hospitality with the most elegant and sophisticated atmosphere, created by the famous interior designer and architect Jean Louis Deniot.
Passed the cosy reception and corridor running the length of a beautiful lounge area (leading to a delightfully peaceful patio, quite nice on the warm summer days), an elegant staircase leads to 6 floors and 24 different rooms, with a color theme per floor. The classically inspired style, revisited by various decorative trends of the twentieth century, draws its inspiration from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. The hotel owes it to Madame Récamier, Chateaubriand’s beautiful muse.
As I checked into my cosy room on the 6th floor, I was anticipating the view I would get from there – and one thing is for sure, I was far from disappointed… My window opened to a gorgeous view over the peaceful place Saint Sulpice, its trees – and, cherry on the cake, the Eiffel Tower in the distance.
My room was small, but provided all the expected comfort starting with a top bed, over which a canopy of specially weaved fabric made it look like it could have fit in a palace.
Yes, Hotel Récamier definitely has everything it takes to make a stay in Saint-Germain-des-Prés unforgettable.
