Swatch Unveils the Bioceramic MoonSwatch Mission to Earthphase: Celebrating Earth from the Moon’s Perspective

Swatch continues to push the boundaries of creativity and innovation in watchmaking with the introduction of the Bioceramic MoonSwatch Mission to Earthphase. This new addition to the Bioceramic MoonSwatch collection celebrates both Earth and the Moon in a unique design that combines moon phase and earth phase complications—an industry first.

A Tribute to Earth and the Moon

This timepiece pays homage to the beauty of Earth as seen from the Moon, blending scientific precision with poetic elegance. The watch includes a moon phase indicator positioned at two o’clock, representing the Moon’s cycle visible from Earth. Uniquely, it also features an earth phase indicator at ten o’clock, displaying the view of our planet from the Moon’s surface. This stunning element brings Earth’s oceans, forests, deserts, and even clouds to life through intricate coloring and a UV-transparent blue ink, visible under ultraviolet light.

Revolutionary Dual Phases

Swatch’s Earthphase feature presents the Earth as it would appear from the Moon, rotating in the opposite direction to the Moon phase and watch hands. This interplay symbolizes the synchronized yet opposing cycles of Earth and Moon, with each completing a full phase every 29.5 days. When the Moon is full, Earth is seen as a “new Earth,” and vice versa, adding a poetic touch to this scientifically inspired design.

Inspired by Apollo and Crafted for the Future

Swatch drew inspiration from the iconic Apollo missions, particularly the breathtaking images of Earth taken by Apollo 17 astronaut Jack Schmitt. Housed in Swatch’s signature bioceramic material—a blend of ceramic and bio-sourced castor oil derivatives—the Mission to Earthphase embodies sustainability and innovation. The dial includes lunar crater textures achieved through digital printing, further enhancing its lunar connection.
