Travel: an intimate wine tasting at the Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris’ precious cellar

Perfect set up ! Shot with my Leica

It is no secret that the Four Seasons Hotel George V is on the very top of my list when it comes to palaces in Paris… There’s a love story between us, and I am always proud and excited to share the exceptional experiences I have there !!

After THAT pyjama party a few week ago, and my unforgettable Jeff Leatham flower class last year, I recently attented another rare event, as part of the Paris experiences the hotel regularly offers its guests: a wine tasting with Eric Beaumard, director of the hotel’s world-famous  two-star “Le Cinq” restaurant.

When you appreciate good wines, entering the cellar of the Four Seasons Hotel George V is quite an emotional experience. Located 14 metres underground, it probably is the hotel’s most precious place, gathering more than 50,000 bottles: an invaluable treasure, that I had the privilege to approach.
Once you are inside, just looking at the labels makes your head spin: grand crus, Saint-Emilion, Krug, Petrus, Chateau-Figeac, Montrachet, Bordeaux…

By candlelight, our wine tasting took us through the exploration of  three different wines. A Diebolt-Vallois 2002 blanc de blancs champagne – which was my favorite, as a champagne connoisseur: it’s always nice to taste one that is not from mass production.

We then tried a very nice white: a Meursault-Genevrières that the hotel acquired at an Hospices the Beaune auction, and ended on a 2006 Chateau Quinault Saint-Emilion Grand Cru that even I, usually not a “red person”, just LOVED !

In true French fashion, the tasting was accompanied by d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s puff pastries, charcuterie and cheese… Definitely a unique moment !
