Travel: Paris officially welcomes 2 new Palaces: the Shangri-La Paris Hotel and the Mandarin Oriental

Less than four years after its opening, the Shangri-La Hotel Paris – that I reviewed a couple of years ago for its afternoon tea, and the Mandarin Oriental – opened 3 years ago, and that I reviewed for the spa, have been
awarded today the coveted “Palace status”. Established in 2010, the Palace status is designed to award official
recognition to the finest 5-star hotels that have exceptional qualities embodying French
standards of excellence and contributing to enhancing the image of France throughout the
world.
Constructed in 1896 by Prince Roland Bonaparte, who was the Emperor’s great-nephew, the now Palace has convinced the “Atout France” jury (France Tourism Development Agency) for the distinction. It is also listed with the French institution, “Monuments Historiques”.
The Shangri-La joins the Parisian Palace circle with Le Bristol, The Four Seasons Hotel George V, Le Meurice, the Park Hyatt Paris Vendôme, the Plaza Athénée, the Royal Monceau Raffles – and the Mandarin Oriental, which also got the distinction today.
